Option 1 is a hybrid of the stock inlet piping, cut in half (right after the 1st mounting bracket) and inserted into a 2"-2" coupler, inserted into a fitting which i'm hoping will mate to my larger than stock CAI extension piping running to the false grill. this one should fit nice and snug in the inlet hole, but its quite [front] heavy, so will likely need to be supported somehow so it doesn't fall out when the weight of the extension hose is hanging on it. the advantage of this option is that its a long straight section leading into the airbox, which would help to build velocity thru the box.

Option 2 is a 1.5"-2" coupler (1.5 end goes into the airbox inlet hole, may need some tape to make a snug, steady fit) coupled with 2- 2" PVC joints. this one is shorter in case option 1 is too long. i like the design of this because the open end of the pvc is kindof like a velocity stack since the hose its connected to will be even wider. then inside, its a pretty straight shot thru with only a few seems. only disadvantage is there is no mounting bracket.

Option 3 is in case the extension hose is pulling on op. 2 and causing it to fall out of the inlet hole. hopefully, the downward angle will give me a better chance to secure the pipe somewhere. its also the lighest out of the 3 designs and a very efficient bend. again, downside is no mounting bracket.

***due to space limiations, none of my 3 designs actually worked, i had to just use the 1.5-2" coupler to mate right up to the extension hose, via a bit of electrical and duct tape.

bump Updated pics in OP. thanks again web!

i actually have 2 more pix didn't have time to upload, and some of those are kindof redundant. i duct taped around the mouth of the extension pipe so that its fairly well sealed to the inside of the grill (though i am not a bit worried about sucking in water, but not too much), i have a pic of a piece of paper being held up against the grill by the air suction, its pretty cool.

this setup seems to be working pretty well. pulls pretty strong and sounds good. throttle response is a crisp as i could hope for i guess. can't wait to see how it feels with my new mobil 1 synthetic oil and redline mt90 tranny fluid.

u can get a rubbber plumbing end cap from home depot. i forget what side it is. 1.5"-2" i believe somewhere in there.

i just removed the silencer and brought it into home depot with me to see what size cap would fit the same diameter.

was there actually a sound difference with the silencer off or was it due to the k*n air filter o.O

there is a difference. the silencer helps to muffler the turbulence caused by the air waves bouncing back off the TB valve as it closes (when you shift, or just get off the throttle).

there is a noticeble increase in intake tone w/o the silencer. much more raspy (in a good way), kindof like how an evo sounds.

yeah, if you're still using the stock [denso] cotton filter AND the charcoal gauze (in the top of the box) then you probably wouldn't notice much just by removing the silencer.

btw, w/ my intake system, in this recent warm weather, i can feel the difference between last summer. know how the car feels real laggy in the hot summer temps?? well...my car doesn't do that anymore. it feels like its running the same as it did when the temps were 50-60.

i also just plugged up the drain hole in the bottom of the air box. since its size and location render it basically uselss anyway, i figured this would help to keep any warm engine bay air from seeping into the box and would help to make a tighter seal and increase vaccuum pressure.

i'm not saying that this made any gains, but whatever i've done to my intake setup, it pulls very nicely and sounds even better. i got all my torque back when i cleaned the air filter. and even in this warmer weather, it still pulls like it did in the winter air.

ur referring to the charcoal/gauze filter element in the top of the box? its actually glued/secured to the top of the box, so u will need to cut it out.

keeps emissions down and mpgs up...thats how they sell cars.. that and HP, and the tc isn't selling based on its hp i don't think..

^^^^^ the charcoal filter element is glued to the top portion of the box. open it up and take a look. then decide how to get it out.

Is there an easy way to pop that lowerer side panel out instead of drilling holes? I'd like to be able to put it back in during bad weather.
