so i installed my injen cold air intake today. the original filter was dirty so i used a no name brand filter from pepboys. everyone seems fine, but i dont hear that cool sucking noise from the cold air intake that im used to hearing. anyone know why this may be?

im thinking the original filter from injen should be used for the sound, but im really not sure. any thoughts?

the filter you put on may be thicker than the injen one? is this your first time having a CAI in your car?

no its my 2nd time. and my other cars, the sound was very evident. i was thinking the exhaust and header drowns the sound maybe. but the filter is bigger than injen

ah, if you have an exhaust it gets harder to hear the intake

lol the engine sounds so much meaner tho. but i hear a weird sound coming from the engine...maybe its the ETD?? its like a spinning noise or something...i dunno is that normal?

Spinning noise? Is it from the intake area? If so, it's normal.

i cant pinpoint, but it sounded like closer to the passenger side. i thought it was the ETD

hmmm......the ETD will give a bit of a knocking sound if cold or if the bolts aren't 100% torqued to spec, but no winding sound....hhhmmm

The engine itself begins to become a bit "louder" when the intake goes on. As the gears are winding up, you can hear somewhat of a higher pitch sound but that's nothing to worry about.

Yeah, it's mainly the design of the TB that is preventing the deep suction but do you hear the whistle? Mine is very prominant and I get a few glances in the rear views at my bumper checking for a FMIC....haha

do you guys think switching to the original injen filter will make the sound audible?

Hmmm....what type of filter did you buy? Is it a "spectre" filter? Those are paper and pretty sh*tty. The injen filter should allow better air flow and the whistle should be heard at cruising speeds with about 1/4-1/2 throttle.

yea i think its the spectre i got. i googled it, its that same exact design. i better switch it out ASAP.

is that silver metal clamp that holds the filter in place removable with just a screwdriver? or do i need a socket wrench?

Silver metal cap? I know they have one but I didn't know it was removable at all.....I thought it was glued in place to hold the wire mesh.

no, the silver thin strip of metal, that tightens onto where the intake and the filter meet

oooooo..............nah, either or. It is a socket head with a common screw driver or phillips knotch also. Either or will work.

Once the metal clamps are off, the Injen filter just slides over the piping, then you secure it with the metal clamps.

Don't worry about the Injen filter looking dirty, it only needs to be cleaned every 25-30,000 miles. Some dirt is actually better.

^yup.......K&N advertises that the dirtier the filter gets (to a point), the better filtering properties it has. It's true. I'm at 33K and still haven't cleaned my filter and am still getting 29 mpg

some pics of injen filter install i did this morning. when driving, i cant really hear the whistle because it is very faint, but when i shift, i hear the sound! sounds like a turbo BOV!!!! i cant hear the whistle while driving due to my header and full catback with no cats or no resonators. also, my ingalls ETD makes the engine noise greater. but when shifting, i definately hear it. when i get on the throttle, i dont think i hear it, cause everything else is so dam loud...im sure its there, but i cant hear it too well, just slightly. when i shift tho and i listen for it, i hear the BOVish noise.

all i can say is WOW screw everyone who said an intake doesnt so sh!t. cause it does. i feel like my car breathes much much better, and the engine sounds mean, pulls like a mother. i just f'd up some bmw 3 series (not the TT one) with a body kit up. im lovin it. anyone who is wondering wheter to get it, if you have exhaust and header, i definately recommend it!
