OK, Inlikeflint brought it up and a lot of us like it.

Let's have an ebay-style ranking for all vendors on this site. We can do this for users that do lots of selling (not many on here, if any) and have it be a visual queue for new users to know they are reputable sellers.

Some more specs in this thread:

Should each higher volume seller or vendor get their own sticky thread?

Vendors, like Operatic, would be a good vendor to have a customer review thread about. Only thing is, a lot of buyers posted in his thread and used that as the response thread. The rating scale would be good for the vendors here so that another thread isn't opened and then lost amongst the rest.

It would be good if it was something flashy, moving.....something that caught your attention in the bottom right of the users avatar section and just pulsed to draw your eyes to them specifically.

maybe like levels, based on positive reviews

1-10 bronze
10-25 silver
25+ gold

Something like that maybe??

That sounds good.....have some sort of bronze/silver/gold ribbon on the bottom right but have it pulse at a slow rate just to set it apart from the other avatars?

Yeah, lets go with the bronze-silver-gold thing.

Oh, and not that its a big deal or anything, but the title of the thread should say "Ratings" right?

How would scoring be handled in an automated sense without abuse?

Edit: With minimal manual effort on my part.

I guess by positive feedback. The more positive feedback a vendor gets, the higher rank/points the vendor gets by one of you admins.

Thats the issue. I don't want to be sitting around monitoring feedback for a bunch of sellers. There needs to be automated system that can't be abused .

Oh I got an idea. You know how you can do vehicle/user ratings? How about we use the same thing for vendors. Only difference is thats it NOT anonymous. When you give a rating (1-5 or so) that gives the vendor that many points.

What do you think?

Actually, THIS is a better idea. Unfortunately, any old user could rate them as a vendor without actually doing business with them. That and this does not prevent the vendor from registering accounts to rate them.

If we do this system, I'd recommend that each user profile has a vendor area where you can write a comment and select a rating. Very much like eBay, except you can rate between a 1 and a 5 and provide a comment. This still doesn't prevent abuse though

but abuse can still be done by someone creating 30 fake accounts and rating themself highly.

Well, we're on the right track. I think in order to rate the person, you must leave a comment.

Yes. The rating + the comment would be stored together and displayed on the users vendor portion of their profile.

and platinum or excellent vendors!!

what if we have a tab for vendors. and then when you click on it, there would be a list of them in alphabetical order. then there would be their rating next to their name. then you can click on their name and access their threads.
